The ruins of Northfield Cottage
Large-scale OS mapping depicts these ruins as the outlines of two buildings, the larger one, corresponding to the rubble on the right, being located just to the WNW of the smaller one, which is represented by the pit on the left.
The trees just behind the ruins are the ones shown in NS4079 : Track to site of Northfield Cottage. There was a Northfield Cottage at this site from the time of the first-edition OS map (c.1860) onwards.
However, Northfield (a farm) at the same site is depicted in Roy's Military Survey of Scotland (1740s-50s).
See NS4079 : The ruins of Northfield Cottage and NS4079 : The ruins of Northfield Cottage for views of the same area from different angles.
