HMML105 in the Strait of Dover in 1941
HMML105 in the Strait of Dover in 1941
Photograph taken by my father George Baker from another ship, possibly after he had attended the training course the Admiralty had instigated in 1941 to train new officers of the RNVR (Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve)(which is why I have submitted a date of August 1941). A course consisted of ten weeks (on my fatherís Certificate of Service, his dates were from 30/05/41-06/08/41), the first two weeks at HMS King Alfred II or HMS King Alfred (M) (aka Mowden School, which the Admiralty had requisitioned in 1940), six weeks at King Alfred III (aka Lancing College) and the final four weeks at Hove (referred to as HMS King Alfred or sometimes HMS King Alfred (H)), a former leisure centre, which the Admiralty had requisitioned in 1939. HMML (His Majestyís Motor Launch) 105 is seen against the backcloth of the chalk cliffs to the northeast of Dover, with the cliff above Langdon Bay on the left of the frame.
