Boundary Stone
Boundary Stone
Inscribed with an ‘S’, probably for Sowerby. This stone is at a corner of the boundary between ‘The Withens’ division of Sowerby Township and Erringden Township as shown on the 1850 six-inch map. It also marks the southern end of the Sowerby Ramble, which is a narrow strip of land around Erringden going back to the time when Erringden was a deer park. Other maps, however, show ‘The Withens’ as being in Erringden.
