Memorial Cairn at Bridge of Muick
With a bench seat. The inscription on the plaque reads:
This cairn marks the spot where,
on 16th September, 1899,
HER MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA,
while driving, met the 1st Battalion
Gordon Highlanders,
who, in camp at Glenmuick,
were to be presented
on the 18th September with new colours
by His Royal Highness
THE PRINCE OF WALES

Sir Allan Mackenzie
had the honour of presenting
Lt Colonel Downman,
The Commanding Officer.
_______________

The Battalion, at Her Majesty's special
desire, then marched past her:
and embarked for South Africa
shortly afterwards,
where Lt Colonel Downman and a large
number of his officers and men laid down
their lives for their Queen and country.
