Coble at Redcar slipway
Coble at Redcar slipway
A coble is brought ashore at Redcar slipway. Cobles are a flat bottomed type of fishing boat which was developed to cope with launching from and landing upon shallow, sandy beaches found on the North East coast of England. Cobles are clinker-built, using overlapping planks, a technique typical of Norse designs such as those used by the Vikings. In the background, on the horizon you can see a jack-up rig.
