Castles of Munster: Mocollop, Waterford (1)

This tall 5 storey circular tower could be as early as C13 with later remodelling, although the first mention of it is in 1462 when the Earl of Desmond died here. The tower had its entrance doorway at the second storey level, accessed from an external stair. The bawn has an east facing square gatehouse, and two other almost square flankers of a later date with gunloops.
