S5206 : Castles of Munster: Loughdeheen, Waterford

taken 14 years ago, 3 km from Ballyduff, Co Waterford, Ireland

Castles of Munster: Loughdeheen, Waterford
Castles of Munster: Loughdeheen, Waterford
Built by the Wyse family, little of the features described in my source are now discernible owing to the all encompassing foliage that is now taking over. It was built on lands that formerly belonged to the Knights Hospitallers, and passed in the C17 to the Sherlocks. Behind the castle in this telephoto shot, there appears to be a ringfort that is marked on the OS map in the adjacent grid square at S5376106071.
