HU2549 : Loch of Grunnavoe Island

taken 10 years ago, near to Browland, Shetland Islands, Great Britain

Loch of Grunnavoe Island
Loch of Grunnavoe Island
A well vegetated island on the Loch of Grunnavoe due to not being accessible to grazing sheep - although in former times it was practice to ferry a few animals out to islands like this.
The stone enclosure or "crub" in the foreground was to exclude stock and would have been used to grow kale or tatties. It is long overgrown and there is now only a Rowan being grown.
