Kenneth Leighton was born in Wakefield in 1929, who was most note worthy for his musical ability. His illustrious career in music spanned many years, beginning in Wakefield Cathedral beginning with the piano, whilst attending Queen Elizabeth Grammar School where he played at school assemblies and concerts. Kenneth was later admitted to the Queen's College in Oxford in 1947, later returning to Edinburgh in his role as Reid Professor of Music in 1970 where he held this position until his death in 1988, six months after being diagnosed with oesophageal cancer.
