Rusland Church and grave of Arthur Ransome
Arthur Ransome and his wife Evgenia are buried to the south of Rusland church.
The imaginative landscape of "Swallows and Amazons" fuses, to an extent, the east shore of Windermere, with Bowness becoming Rio, and the west shore of Coniston Water, with Coniston Old Man becoming Kanchenjunga. Ransome is thus buried in the heart of his fictional creation, between Windermere and Coniston Water in countryside that in the novels he swallowed up in the lake.
