Although photographed from the National Waterfront Museum (one of the Welsh national museums) the steam tug Canning and lightship Helwick are the property of Swansea Museum. There were visitors on the lightship but the tug is out of bounds due to its poor condition. The tug was built in 1954 by Cochrane & Sons Ltd of Selby and is 104' long, 200 GRT and powered by a 950 shaft horsepower inverted vertical triple expnasion steam engine by C D Holmes & Co Ltd, Hull. She was withdrawn in 1975 and has been preserved here for many years. I visited the machinery spaces in 1992 and have submitted one scanned image to date (3/2021).
