Foynes is a relatively new town by Irish standards, as it is less than 200 years old. The building shown was built in 1860s as Monteagle Arms Hotel, Foynes first public hotel & pub. In 1939-1945, it became the Foynes Airport terminal building. Presently, it is the Foynes Flying Boat Museum. The River Shannon was utilized as the runway for the flying boats. The highest part was utilized as the control tower.
