Plot 24, Hill Close Gardens
Hill Close Gardens is a rare survival of a group of Victorian detached gardens, a common feature of many 19th-century towns. Warwick's were laid out after 1845 on a west-facing hillside pasture. They were saved from dereliction and an old people's housing scheme and restored with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Gardens are on English Heritage's Register of Gardens and Designed Landscapes; a number of plots have attractive summerhouses which are Grade II listed buildings. A handful of plots are privately rented from the managing trust; the rest are cultivated by a team of volunteers according to their own gardening interests. Hill Close Gardens is open to visitors for guided tours, events, plant sales and refreshments through most of the year: Link
