Dromana gate and bridge
An incongruous sight in this part of Ireland, this Hindu - Gothic gate house is the only one of its type in Ireland. Amazingly, this structure was originally constructed out of papier mache and wood as a home-coming greeting for the estate's owner Henry Villiers-Stuart after his honeymoon with his newly wedded wife Theresia Pauline Ott of Vienna in 1826. They liked the structure so much that they subsequently had it re-constructed in stone.
Now partly derelict, it was restored by the Irish Georgian Society in the 1960s and then by Waterford County Council in 1990. The bridge in the foreground was replaced in 1971.
