Lower Ferry at Dartmouth

The Lower Ferry crosses the River Dart between Dartmouth and Kingswear and carries up to 8 cars plus a number of foot passengers.
There are a pair of ferry units, each consisting of a floating platform which is pushed and pulled by an associated tug.
The ferry operates on the route of the original row-boat ferry between Dartmouth and Kingswear which was replaced in 1834 by the 'horse ferry' - also rowed, but capable of taking two horses and carts.

The town contains many Mediaeval buildings and is the home of the Britannia Royal Naval College.
