A lifeboat station was established here in 1866. It was short-lived due its remote position making it difficult to recruit volunteers. This, added to the cost of its upkeep, along with regular landslides, meant that the station was closed in 1880. The lifeboat building has however received a new lease of life as it was and is now used by fishermen as a storage facility.
