Grayrigg Hall Beck and Grayrigg Cave
The small and exceedingly unimpressive entrance to the cave is located behind vegetation on the right. According to Northern Caves Vol 3 (1994, Dalesman Books) it was enlarged to 6m long in 1971 by the Yorkshire Underground Research Team (YURT). I suspect they may have regretted straying over to Westmorland? Remarkably, for such a minor cave, the OS have chosen to show it on large scale maps but it does seem to be the only cave for a long way around. Limestone does outcrop in several places nearby and determined cave explorers may profit from a thorough exploration of the area. It is not clear where the water for the resurgence nearby SD5797 : Resurgence beside Grayrigg Hall Beck originates.
