The St John Triptych, St Mary's church - Lydiard Tregoze
This absolutely magnificent painted triptych commemorates members of the St John family whose genealogy is displayed on the outside panels. When these outer panels are opened, as on this rare occasion - a Heritage Open Day, a family portrait is revealed on the inside. It was commissioned in 1615 by Sir John St John, the 1st Baronet in memory of his father Sir John, and his wife Lucy, who are depicted in the centre kneeling on a tomb. Their son, Sir John the younger, the 1st Baronet, is on the left with his wife Anne, with his six sisters on the right.

The opened triptych is displayed in a series of photos from slightly different positions, due to the difficulty in photographing it entirely free of reflections. LinkExternal link

Footnote: the term 'triptych' is a bit of a misnomer as strictly speaking it is actually a polyptych, having three inside panels, and two outer painted double doors. However, the panels are almost universally referred to as a triptych in various publications, and popular opinion.
