I was fortunate to gain this image whilst crossing on the HSC Mannanan from Douglas to Liverpool.
Registered in Panama, it is owned by the energy company BHP.
The Irish Sea Pioneer is a mobile, self-elevating operations support vessel (OSV), serving the unmanned Lennox, Hamilton and Hamilton North satellite production platforms which form the Douglas Complex. It moves around the development to carry out testing, inspection and maintenance. Once in position alongside a platform, the OSV lowers its four giant legs onto the sea bed and then lifts itself out of the water to the level of the platform deck.
For further technical details see LinkExternal link
The coordinate for the platform has been verified from the log registered with Maritime Traffic Agency whilst the camera location was taken from the inbuilt GPS facility; both were recorded at 16.20 hours on the day in question.

SJ3293 : Square-rigged shows the vessel being towed out in June 2005.
