Tommy Cooper Statue, Caerphilly
This larger than life-size bronzed statue of one of Britain’s best loved funny men, Tommy Cooper, was unveiled at a site overlooking Caerphilly Castle in 2008 by Sir Anthony Hopkins, who is patron of The Tommy Cooper Society. The 9ft (2.7m) bronze was sculpted by James Done. Standing on a 4ft (1.2m) plinth, the statue depicts him wearing his trademark fez.
Tommy Cooper was born in Caerphilly in 1921. He built his career around comedy magic which went wrong and was regarded by many as the greatest comedian of his generation. He died of a heart attack during a TV show in 1984.
