1296 - Edward I invades Scotland and removes John Balliol from the throne.
1298 - William Wallace is defeated at the Battle of Falkirk.
1306 - Robert Bruce murders John Comyn and is crowned King of Scots.
1328 - The Treaty of Edinburgh recognises Scottish Independence.
1387 - Robert Burns visits the battlefield site and later composes 'Scots Wha Hae'.
1943 - The National Trust for Scotland acquires this part of the battlefield site.
2014 - 700th anniversary of the battle; the battlefield monuments are conserved.
