Boretree Tarn
Boretree Tarn
On the ridge between Finsthwaite and Rusland. According to Heaton Cooper there were originally three small tarns here mentioned in deeds dated 1616. A dam was built to enlarge them into one Tarn in the late 18th. Century. The name Boretree is thought to relate to 'Bore' an old name for the Elder.
