Victoria Court is thought to have been built as a motor garage in c1930. It was converted to retail and office use in 1989. It has just been rebuilt as student flats, with a small supermarket on the ground floor.
The original façade has been "fossilized" by filling in the old windows. The new windows are at regular intervals and at different levels to the original. The end result looks as if an image of the old building has been projected onto a new block of flats.
See SD4761 : CityBlock, Penny Street for a closer view of the old centre-piece as it is now.
