Rock outcrops on Howes
Howes is not a separate fell (so said Wainwright in 'The Outlying Fells of Lakeland') but he made it the objective of one of his walks. By contrast with its parent fell Branstree and nearby Selside Pike, Howes has numerous small crags and outcrops and is a far more pleasant spot to take a break. Below are the upper reaches of Hobgrumble Gill backed by Nabs Moor with Swindale beyond.
