NT8526 : Bog on Border ridge north of Whitelaw Nick

taken 7 years ago, 3 km from Kirk Yetholm, Scottish Borders, Great Britain

Bog on Border ridge north of Whitelaw Nick
The Border fence is on the extreme right. Just ahead is the line of the old track from Yetholm to Trowupburn, now a footpath. Two Bronze Age tumuli are marked just beyond but not very easily seen. It is likely that this small area of bog defined by rushes, standing water and sphagnum moss, is the feature shown on the OS Map of 1863 as 'Oxpool' and used at that time to define the eastern extension of the Scottish Border, between Stob Stones and Tuppie's Grave. This extension to include Yetholm Common is described here NT8527 : Stob Stones
