Amber Hill Rising, Scordale
Amber Hill Rising, Scordale
A large and speleologically important rising that brings water from Christy Bank Pot, a blocked sink in Siss Gill NY7620 : Siss Gill at Christy Bank. According to Northern Caves Vol 3 (1994,Dalesman Pub Co) the rising has only been penetrated for 6m through loose rock without reaching open cave passage by the Craven Pothole Club in 1965. There is a vertical drop of about 55m and a horizontal distance of almost 2km between the choked sink and the rising. Cave passages almost never follow a dead straight line between points and so there is ample potential here for a sizeable cave system if only someone is prepared to undertake the work of excavation.
