NT9917 : Large cairn on Knock Hill

taken 11 years ago, near to Greensidehill, Northumberland, England

Large cairn on Knock Hill
Large cairn on Knock Hill
This is the westerly of the three large cairns identified on Knock Hill. It is thought to be a burial mound dating from the Bronze Age but has been much disturbed and no remains found. Many of the stones were robbed to build a rectangular shelter next to it (now itself ruined). The cairn centre also shows signs of having been excavated in the past and partly backfilled.
