One of the last projects I worked on in the water industry, in 1999, was to address various problems with the water supply in this very flat area of Lincolnshire (which for historical reason came under Yorkshire Water rather than Severn Trent). We concluded that the basic problem was that the water towers in the various villages, including this one, have been built a few metres too low for the contemporary standards of minimum pressure. So the solution instead of the usual relaying or cleaning of mains, was to put booster pumps on the outlet main from the tower. I guess the small brick building in the photo houses those pumps, demonstrating that the proposal I submitted was implemented.
