Swindon Station forecourt (2)
The forecourt is seen now after a £1.8m re-design. There were two objectives, aesthetic and safety-related. Previously pedestrians leaving the station had to run the gauntlet of several lines of traffic to reach Station Road with buses, taxis and private cars presenting a risk of injury. Work started in August 2011 and was scheduled to be completed by June 2012. The project overran because of contractor overoptimism and bad weather.
