Camera Obscura view of Aberystwyth
The Camera Obscura on top of Constitution Hill to the north of Aberystwyth is the largest in the world having a 14" primary mirror. It projects onto the circular table seen here (which appears as an ellipse due to the angle it's taken at).
The mirror can be steered by a joystick inside the viewing chamber allowing it to swing around and up & down. The silvery light of the day I was there resulted in this rather monochromatic image, but on better viewing days the colours would be more accurately reproduced and apparently over 1000 square miles, and a hundred miles of coast can be viewed using this fine piece of optics.
Note: The image was crisper and clearer than this photograph suggests, as it is a 1/6 second hand-held shot so has some human-induced blurring I'm afraid !
