Stevington Windmill - mechanism
Stevington Windmill - mechanism
This is the top level of the buck. At the top of the picture is the sloping windshaft that carries the sails to the right. Bottom right is the brake wheel and part of the wallower driving the single set of stones. The main focus is opposite and is the sloping brake lever with the ropes to pull it off. The brake is in the on position and is padlocked down. The curving metal piece (a bit like a scythe blade) above is to hold the brake off and this catch can also be disengaged with a rope.
