Salmon at Murray's Cauld, Philiphaugh
An autumn run of salmon are trying to progress upstream to breeding grounds on the Ettrick Water near Selkirk but they will only succeed by using the fish ladder in the middle of the cauld. The Atlantic salmon will jump the fish ladder in May and June and again from mid-September to the end of November when the water level is high enough. For a view of the 165 year old cauld where contractors are carrying out repair works, see NT4427 : Murray's Cauld at Philiphaugh near Selkirk.
