SZ5099 : How many players allowed in a cricket field at any one time?

taken 13 years ago, 3 km from Calshot, Hampshire, England

How many players allowed in a cricket field at any one time?
How many players allowed in a cricket field at any one time?
The strict answer is 17: 11 from the fielding team, two batsmen, two runners (if the batsmen are injured, though this is no longer permitted in international cricket) and two umpires.

Here, on the Brambles Bank, there seem to be one or two more. But then it's more craziness than cricketness. There are many fielders in the slips, though arguably everyone's already in the gully. More details about the madness here: Link
