Church of St Peter & St Paul, Shepton Mallet - the nave roof
Undoubtedly the glory of the church is its magnificent wagon roof over the nave, the finest of all the wagon roofs in England according to Pevsner. It was constructed in c.1510-20 and there are in total some 350 individual panels, and over 300 bosses, all without any repetition in the design. I remember this footpath well. It ran alongside the churchyard and if you went that way on a wet night, the path was always covered with huge worms, which would suddenly slide back between the paving when they became aware of your footsteps.
