The shadow cast upon a cloud bank is actually a common phenomenon and I have often seen it. Its reputation for rarity may have something to do with the very fine one I saw from Yr Wyddfa once - there must have been 200 folk around the summit, but only three of us were looking at the Brocken. They are there if you look for them.
