Aberystwyth station, main exterior
An imposing structure as rebuilt by the GWR in 1925. The view is NE on Alexandra Road in the middle of the town. It is the terminus of the ex-Cambrian Railway (later GWR) main line from Whitchurch (closed 14/6/65) and Shrewsbury via Welshpool and Machynlleth and formerly of the GWR line from Carmarthen (closed 2/2/65). The narrow-gauge Vale of Rheidol line to Devil's Bridge, former GWR now privately owned, also terminates here - see also SN5881 : Aberystwyth station, platform view 1992). (The GWR station was certainly NOT closed during World War Two, as formerly recorded in the Wikipedia article about it. It was the Vale of Rheidol line that was temporarily closed.)
