A 'spite wall', Stankelt Road, Silverdale
One of the owners of two adjacent houses built a large wall just feet from the side of the adjoining property. It would probably not have been the occupants of this house since it is their light and view which are being 'spited'.
'Cheek by Jowl: A History of Neighbours' by Emily Cockayne, states that the wall was built in 1880 by the owner of the nearest house after another neighbour (some distance away) had built this house right up against the boundary.
