Algarkirk is cited in the Domesday Survey as 'Alfgare', there is no mention of a church here in 1086.
The Church dates from the late 12th C. onwards. It has a central tower (the spire is 19th C), aisles, clerestoried nave and transepts with west aisles. The transepts are unusual in being double-aisled.
The nave has 13th C. five bay arcades with circular piers. Chancel is 14th C. with piscina and sedilia. The walls are painted with stencilled decoration. There is an ornate Reredos.
The north aisle contains effigies of a priest and civilian, and the octagonal Font is 13th C. in Purbeck marble.
Church was restored in 1850-54. There are several monuments to the Beridge family who were lords of the manor and rectors at Algarkirk for about 300 years until the late C19.
