Butler's Cottages on this double bend in the B683 road are situated on a stretch of road at the entrance/exit to the village of Papplewick at the point where Main Street and Blidworth Waye become one. It seems that these gabled worker’s cottages, associated with the nearby Papplewick water pumping station, were completed by Barber and Whitaker in May 1890 for the sum £520 and were named after a certain Alderman Butler. This road forms part of the route used by No.141 Trent Barton buses that run between Nottingham and Mansfield, via Hucknall, Linby, Papplewick, Newstead Abbey, Ravenshead, Blidworth and Rainby. Until c.1750 it was part of the main link between Oakham and Richmond,Yorkshire.
