NS4660 : Possible site of a structure

Comparison with another picture (NS4660 : Old boundary), where the same bush can be seen not far ahead, shows that this area lies alongside a rather faint old boundary.

In the vicinity of the bush, there are equally faint traces suggesting that there may once have been an enclosure or some other rectangular structure here, attached to the boundary. The old boundary itself begins at the lower right corner, and recedes into the distance, but is hard to make out. There appeared to be two low ridges jutting out perpendicularly from the boundary; they are equally hard to make out, but the nearer of the two is just in front of the shadow of the bush, and is oriented in the same direction as that shadow. The other is just behind the shadow of the bush, but cannot be made out in a view from this side. See NS4660 : Possible site of a structure for a view from the other side.

This is about as well as the traces can be shown in a photograph, even with the low angle of the sun improving their visibility a little. For an alternative view, see Google Earth's "Historic Imagery" of 1/28/2005; in that dataset, the low sun reveals several faint traces here, in the vicinity of the old boundary.

Ainslie's 1796 map of the County of Renfrew does show a building somewhere in this area (see the last paragraph of NS4560 : The remains of Stanelymoor), and there is the possibility that these traces are connected with it; however, it is worth stressing that any position deduced from Ainslie's map will be fairly imprecise.
