The look out post on Bigland Barrow
The look out post on Bigland Barrow
The top of the hill is 'adorned' with a rickety structure that was built as a Royal Observer Corps observation point LinkExternal link. Today, on a murky November afternoon, I can just about observe the Coniston fells through the gloom. Be warned if you try to improve the view by getting up on the post - the handrail and steps have seen better days.
