Waddon Ponds, winter late afternoon
Waddon Ponds, winter late afternoon
One of the headwaters of the River Wandle. In the 18th/19th century the Wandle was perhaps the most industrially-exploited river in the country: its rapid drop to the Thames made it possible to construct mills very close together along much of its length. Waddon Ponds, I suspect, began as a millpond.
River Wandle
A short river (9 miles) flowing entirely within southern London. It rises at Waddon Pond (Croydon) and flows north to meet the River Thames at Wandsworth.
