Flooded River Cree
Flooded River Cree
On 19th November 2012 Newton Stewart suffered its worst flooding in 60 years following prolonged heavy rain. Parts of the town were inundated and some residents living near the riverside had to be evacuated by boat. This is the view looking upstream from the bypass bridge - the only bridge over the lower Cree passable to road traffic, the Creebridge in the town centre having been closed temporarily at the height of the floods because of fears over its safety.
