Dumbarton Municipal Buildings
Dumbarton Municipal Buildings
See NS3975 : Dumbarton Municipal Buildings for much more information about the buildings. At the time of writing, West Dunbartonshire Council's Registrar's Office is based here. The council's headquarters are elsewhere: NS4175 : The County Buildings, Dumbarton.

The date 1900 appears in a roundel above the windows on the right, but the buildings were officially opened in 1903. High above the entrance on this side, the Elephant and Castle motif also appears (properly, an elephant with a tower on its back; see NS4076 : Memorial fountain (detail) for more details, and compare NS3975 : Dumbarton Prison - entrance portico; these symbols are from the Dumbarton Arms, and they can be seen in many places in the town). For the statue, see NS3975 : Statue of Peter Denny.

The buildings were erected on College Park (the former grounds of College Park House). The land was bought from the railway company by Lord Overtoun, and gifted by him to the burgh. The buildings, by James Thomson, were officially opened in 1903. The College Bow Link now stands in the grounds, as do a Boer War Memorial Link and a statue of Peter Denny Link
