Gordale - the Grand Canyon of the Dales?
Gordale - the Grand Canyon of the Dales?
'Grand Canyon' is definitely egging the pudding but the tiered limestone scars, steep slopes and swift beck of this great trench valley do have a definite impact. Few visitors come this way due to the lack of paths but CRoW access does allow exploration nowadays. Gordale Scar, the main tourist trap hereabouts, is out of sight beyond the crag on the left bank (known to rock climbers as Low Stoney Bank SD9164 : Low Stoney Bank, Gordale Scar).
