Ravensfleet Pumping Station
Ravensfleet Pumping Station
The Ravensfleet Pumping Station dates from the 1840s and is one of the few pumping stations to still run on manually controlled diesel engines of which there are two. One manufactured by Ruston & Hornsby of Lincoln which dates from the 1960s and is still maintained by a former apprentice from the original company. The other Blackstone diesel engine is dated from the 1950s and is also very well maintained.
The pumping station was originally powered by steam engines. This pumping station is still controlled manually and has to be opened and fired up by the Pumping Station Keeper. The Ravensfleet Pumping Station used to be owned by Gainsborough Internal Drainage Board but is now owned by Scunthorpe & Gainsborough Water Management Company.

It is normally not open to the public, however kind permission was granted on this occasion to allow the photographing of the outside of the building and also special consent to photograph the inside and the magnificent engines in full flow.
Special thanks to the Pump House Keeper for access and information.
