The channel of the Overtoun Burn
The picture was taken from a wooden NS4276 : Footbridge over the Overtoun Burn, and is a view upstream. See NS4276 : The channel of the Overtoun Burn for further details; as noted there, the channel dates from the 1890s, but some additional work was carried out here in the 1970s.
The channel flows alongside a NS4276 : Former dam and lily pond, which powered an early domestic hydro-electric scheme (NS4276 : Remains of a turbine house). The flow of water between this channel and the dam was controlled by a sluice gate: NS4276 : Sluice gate beside the Overtoun Burn. See NS4276 : The channel of the Overtoun Burn for further details.
