SZ1191 : Boscombe, DeaconsThis pub is destined to reopen under a new licensee in the near future, and renamed The Ragged Cat. This is not a modern reinvention of a pub name but a reversion to the old historic name by which it was known as far back as the 1850s. At this time the pub was just one building in the middle of wild heathland more frequented by smugglers and other rogues than anyone else. Times haven't changed that much over the years so it seems! I believe the pub once granted a full licence during the 1870s, was then called the Palmerston Arms before being renamed Deacons sometime during the late 20th century.
