Heading down Brant Side
Heading down Brant Side
'Brant' is a local dialect word meaning 'steep' and perfectly describes the slope above Arten Gill. While not concentrating on slipping there is a bird's eye view of the Artengill Viaduct which carries the Settl-Carlisle railway across the gill. A rare shaft of sun lights up the debris pile (now grassed over) beyond the viaduct, left behind by the navvies who built the viaduct, cuttings and other structures nearby.
