This is by East Worthing, looking east towards Lancing, on New Year's Day, 2013.

Erosion and long-shore drift here are dealt with by the maintenance of wooden groynes and the import of huge boulders. The top of the beach profile consists of pebbles and larger stones; lower down it is sandy.
